I’m Syd Ramim from Perth, Western Australia, and my journey into action figures began with a Michael Keaton Batman that used to take on every toy in my room. I guess I always liked the dramatic stuff—from superheroes to horror—which is probably why the name Sinister’s Collectibles felt so natural later on.
I started collecting properly around 2010 with a bootleg Hulk I bought using birthday money. Not the fanciest start, but it sparked something real. Over time, I realised these figures weren’t just decorations—they were characters with stories waiting to be told. That thought eventually pushed me into toy photography.
In 2017, after experiencing too many toxic collector groups, I created Action Figure Maniacs. I just wanted a safe, positive place for collectors to hang out and share the hobby. I never imagined AFM would grow into such a global, creative community by 2025, but I’m grateful it did.

Toy photography became serious for me in 2024, thanks to our admin @instafigurine, who showed me what was possible with the right lighting, posing, and composition. I’ve always loved the cinematic feel of Marvel movies and comic book panels, so that naturally shaped my style—cinematic, moody, and hero-focused.
Hot Toys 1/6 figures and statues became my main tools. I enjoy creating scenes that look like they were pulled straight out of a film. One of my favourite shots is a Punisher vs. Kingpin standoff I posted in 2024. It wasn’t based on a movie—just a story I wanted to tell through two figures.
It wasn’t smooth in the beginning. Posing was tough, lighting was tricky, editing took time, and buying Hot Toys in Australia often feels like getting punched in the wallet. But I learned step by step—studying movies, practicing nonstop, and taking every failed shot as a lesson.
AFM has been a big part of my growth. Through the community, I gained confidence, learned from others, and found people who share the same passion. As Senior Admin now, I supervise the team, help with collabs, and keep the group and the Instagram page (@actionfiguremaniacs) active and inspiring.

Outside AFM, I’m into cars, photography in general, movies, and exploring new shooting spots. My day job keeps me busy, but creativity keeps me grounded. Looking ahead, I hope to make more cinematic series, connect with photographers around the world, and maybe one day build a strong enough portfolio to work professionally with brands like Hot Toys.
We’re all here because we love these figures—and AFM is where those stories come to life.
More collaborations, more events, more opportunities for collectors to shine.
And for anyone new joining AFM, here’s what I’ve learned:
Don’t compare—learn. Don’t rush—experiment.
Enjoy the hobby, enjoy the process, and don’t let FOMO control your collection.
We’re all here because we love these figures—and AFM is where those stories come to life.
